현담문고는 아단(雅丹) 강태영 여사께서 각별한 애정과 관심으로 수집한 우리의 고전적과 근현대 문학 자료를 바탕으로 설립되었습니다. 1985년부터 한국 전통문화의 토대를 마련한 전적 자료를 수집하기 시작했고, 1989년부터는 저명 문인들의 친필과 유품 등을 기증받았습니다. 2005년에 재단법인 현담문고를 설립하면서 명실상부한 한국학 박물관과 자료실로 거듭나게 되었습니다. 재단법인 설립 이전의 현담문고가 자료의 수집과 정리, 보관에 역점을 두었다면, 재단법인 설립 이후에는 전시 기획과 열람 기능, 학술 연구 업무, 자료 발간 사업 등으로 영역을 확장함으로써 국내 유수의 한국학 박물관과 자료실로 발전해가고 있습니다
